Health and Wellness

The most critical aspect of maintaining independence and a high quality of life for older adults is ensuring that health and wellness concerns are identified and addressed at an early stage.

Correctly dealing with minor incidents in a timely manner can keep them from becoming more serious medical issues that negatively affect an older adult's independence and quality of life.

The eNeighbor® and eNeighborVitalsTM remote and vital sign monitoring systems are designed to assist families and care providers in creating an environment that helps ensure their relative's, or resident's, health and safety.

The eNeighbor Remote Monitoring system

The eNeighbor Remote Monitoring System uses small, unobtrusive sensors placed throughout the residence to track activities of daily living.  The sensors establish the typical levels of daily activity, or the "routine," for each resident.  If a significant change in certain activities such as toilet use, sleeping, refrigerator use or a general lack of activity is detected, a call is made to a family member, care giver, neighbor, etc. who can then check in with the senior and make sure that they are alright.

The eNeighbor remote monitoring system can also detect changes in health conditions.  Many times, an abnormal level of a specific daily activity can be a sign that a senior has a developing health concern.  The system's ability to detect a developing health condition quickly helps families and care providers address the issue immediately, often keeping it from becoming a more serious issue.

eNeighborVitals

The ability to accurately measure vital signs is becoming increasingly important as the number of older adults who suffer from chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes and COPD increases.  Implementing technology that helps manage these conditions is extremely important to providing a safe environment for aging in place.

Vital Sign Monitoring and Chronic Disease Management

The ability to monitor vital signs relating to specific health conditions can greatly improve families', physicians' and seniors' ability to maintain and improve health and wellness, and therefore maintain and improve quality of life.  Simply put, vital sign monitoring provides valuable information about a senior‘s current health condition.

Vital sign monitoring allows caregivers and seniors to understand and improve long-term health trends relating to medication and lifestyle changes.  For seniors who struggle managing high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes and COPD, ensuring that certain readings remain within a safe range is critical.

This is why the eNeighborVitals monitoring system's ability to notify caregivers and physicians if a reading goes too far above or below set thresholds is so valuable.  Not only can this help caregivers ascertain whether or not medication and lifestyle practices are working correctly, it can help to prevent costly emergency room visits, hospitalizations, or hospital re-admissions.

Through the use of technology families and care providers can greatly improve their ability to ensure the health and wellness of their relative, or resident.  Aging in place technology is the future of a long-term care system that promotes independence and quality of life.
